I think it is the way that you are prepping the roving that is making it spin a little thicker. I have had the same experience with two bumps of the same BFL, and one was fantastically thicker than the other.Question is, when you split the bumps, are you also loosening the fiber at all? I had better results when I pulled the fibers apart (just like you would for a lock of fleece before you flick card it)
